Hangar

Welcome to the on-line house, a.k.a. the Hangar, of the Southern California K9 Air Corps! Wipe off your paws, sit back and enjoy the web site of  what we think is Southern California's premier Disc Dog Club. The SCKAC is the result of Mike and Kathy Millers love and devotion of the sport/activity of the Southern California Disc Dog lifestyle! The Millers wanted to spread the word of what they found was the ultimate bond with their own unbelievable dog's.  Looking for an avenue to get other people involved in this sport/activity they so dearly love, the Southern California K9 Air Corps Club was born!

Trying to keep the sport at the level of your typical backyard type player, they ask for no due's, do not keep a roster of members but provide a place to play/train your pups at a variety of different venues from LA to Riverside, in addition to hosting some of the best competitions the West can offer!

The SCKAC can boast that some of their member's are World, National and Pro Champions. Also some members are stars of stage and screen! But that is not their main focus, the Millers have found that not only is this a great way to exercise and bond with their dog's but its a great way to get the word out to the 1000's of people that have seen their shows, that through dedication and commitment to your own pups you too can form the ultimate bond with your dog and prevent another addition to the overcrowded pet population in pounds, rescue organizations etc. that currently exists in this country. Check out our Show page for information on how this club can perform for your organization!

Do you want to become a member of this awesome club. Well you can right this minute! Click on the Yahoo list button below and within 5 minutes you will be one of the many people that have found out just how much fun this sport/activity can be! The only thing we ask is that you join this free e-mail list so that we have a way to contact you to announce any contest and/or Playdays that we may be having. Your e-mail will NOT be given out and is totally secure. You can also use this list to ask the more seasoned members of this club, training tips, where the next contest/playday is going to be or just an avenue to talk about the thing we all love and that is our dog's!

We welcome you to the SCKAC and hope you enjoy our website, make sure to check out all the pages, we have information to help the pros to the brand new person. We hope you will enjoy this site and if you have any questions and/or suggestions feel free to visit our contact page and drop us a line or two!

Mike and Kathy Miller win a Lifetime Achievement Award!
(view the Skyhoundz write-up below!)

At the Hyperflite Awards Banquet at the Skyhoundz World Championship, Jeff Perry, Greg Perry and I presented Mike and Kathy Miller the first Skyhoundz Lifetime Achievement Award.

Here is the text of the presentation read by Jeff Perry:

In canine disc sports it’s fairly common for participants and organizations to recognize with awards and accolades, the athletic accomplishments of disc dog teams that excel on the playing field.

It’s far less common for us to take note of, and recognize, the accomplishments of those individuals working behind the scenes to promote our sport and provide training and encouragement to beginners.

Over the years we have seen many World Class competitors who, like shooting stars, burn brightly for a brief moment, then disappear from our collective consciousness. Their appearances, though exciting at the moment, usually do not profoundly impact the sport or the participants who follow them.

Others individuals dedicate a substantial portion of their lives to promote and perpetuate canine disc sports and don’t let anything stand in their way. They may be world champions or, more likely, they just have the hearts and souls of champions without the big trophies. It has been our privilege to know a few such individuals and tonight, to honor them, we are pleased to announce the establishment of a most special honor - the Skyhoundz Lifetime Achievement Award.

It is our privilege, tonight, to present this award to two individuals, who together, exemplify the attributes of commitment, passion, selflessness in combination with goodwill, sportsmanship and a willingness to teach others of the joys of canine disc sports.

For more than 20 years, Mike and Kathy Miller have made canine disc sports an important part of their lives. If you are from the west coast, and in particular, southern California, it is impossible not to be aware of Mike and Kathy and their involvement in, and love affair with, canine disc sports. We have known these two to be active and enthusiastic spokespeople for the positive aspects of the canine disc lifestyle and for pet welfare in general. In fact, if there were a canine disc recruitment poster it would read, “Uncle Mike and Aunt Kathy Want You!"

The Southern California K-9 Air Corps is the result of Mike and Kathy Miller’s love and devotion to canines and canine disc aficionados. Through this organization Mike and Kathy make it fun and affordable for folks to experience the joys and thrills of canine disc sports.

The Millers have long sought to spread the word about the special bond between humans and canines and how a simple thing, like a plastic flying disc, can enhance this bond. Hundreds, if not thousands, of pet owners have been introduced to canine-disc sports by Mike and Kathy over the years. More significantly, and near and dear to my heart, their efforts to encourage people to adopt canines from shelters and rescue organizations, have saved the lives of many special animals that were, in all probability, destined for a grim fate.

Tonight, I would encourage each of you to take a moment to thank Mike and Kathy for their years of devotion to our great sport. Their enthusiastic and tireless efforts have truly been a labor of love. For the rest of us, their efforts leave a wonderful legacy…a special gift to be treasured.

It is our honor, to present to Mike and Kathy Miller, the very first Skyhoundz Lifetime Achievement Award.

The plaque was engraved as follows:

Skyhoundz Lifetime Achievement Award Whereas, Mike and Kathy Miller have, for a significant portion of their lives, demonstrated a substantial commitment of their time and resources in furtherance of the promotion of canine disc sports; and

Whereas, Mike and Kathy Miller, through their involvement in canine disc sports, have introduced thousands of people to the special bond between humans and canines; and Whereas, canine disc aficionados have benefited from the wisdom that they have willingly shared during more than 20 years of involvement with canine disc sports; and

Whereas, by their example, and through their encouragement, countless shelter animals have been adopted by people that Mike and Kathy Miller have introduced to flying disc sports,

Now Therefore, this award, honoring Mike and Kathy Miller for those efforts, is hereby presented, this 20th day of September, 2003.

Sincerely,

Peter Bloeme
